Designing Label Printing Options
A feature update that helps merchants easily identify and select the right label type before printing
My role
Sole Product Designer responsible for end-to-end product design across ShopKeep BackOffice, ShopKeep iOS Register, and ShopKeep Pocket (iOS). I partnered with product managers and engineers to design and deliver the label printing feature.
Overview
As more label formats became available, merchants needed a simple way to identify and choose the right option for their items. The goal was to integrate this new functionality into the existing printing workflow while keeping the experience familiar and efficient.
My Design Thinking
Where should the feature live?
The label printing settings page already existed as the place where merchants configured item settings and managed printing preferences. Since users were already familiar with this workflow, I integrated the new label selection feature there to create a seamless and intuitive experience.
What type of selection should I use?
I chose radio buttons because they clearly communicate that merchants can select only one label type for each item. This interaction pattern reduces confusion and guides users toward making a single selection.
Preview before printing
To help merchants understand what they would receive, I introduced a label preview above the selection options. Some label formats may not be familiar to users, and printing without knowing the final output could lead to wasted labels and unnecessary workflow interruptions. The preview feature provides users with confidence before making a selection, helping them avoid mistakes and creating a smoother printing experience.
